Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has congratulated Leicester City and paid tribute to the club’s late owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha following their FA Cup triumph.
A sensational strike from Youri Tielemans sealed victory over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday with the Foxes claiming the trophy for the first time in their history.
Maguire spent two seasons at the King Power Stadium before joining Manchester United in 2019 for a world record fee for a defender.
Maguire was at the club when Leicester owner Srivaddhanaprabha tragically lost his life in a helicopter in 2018.
Writing on Instagram following Leicester’s win, Maguire wrote: ‘Vichai will be smiling, Congratulations LCFC.’
Tielemans and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who made two crucial saves late on to deny Chelsea, also paid tribute to Vichai and his son Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who took over the club following his father’s death.
‘It was a really nice goal to score in the final of an FA Cup,’ Tielemans said.
‘I did it for all the Leicester fans, I’m looking up and I see our president, his father would have been proud.
‘Even though I didn’t know him it is for his family, his club and his legacy.’
Schmeichel added: ‘We have a picture on the inside of our shirts so he’s always with us. This is what we’ve dreamt of and talked about for so long.’
