Love Island’s Iain Stirling was praised by viewers for ‘doing Caroline Flack proud’ in an emotional farewell tribute to the late star.
The ITV2 series, which Caroline has fronted for the past five years, returned to screens tonight in a dedication to the star, after she was died in her London home on Saturday.
Opting to focus on a calm beach as a statement was read by voiceover Iain, viewers were heartbroken as the joker’s voice cracked, and he ended the speech with: ‘I’m gonna miss you, Caz.’
His difficulty in saying the statement didn’t go unnoticed by fans of the show, who had tuned in to the show’s return after a two day hiatus, and praised Iain for getting through it.
Leading the charge was girlfriend Laura Whitmore, who had taken over Caroline’s hosting duties for the winter series that started in January.
She wrote: ‘Love you [Iain]. I know that wasn’t easy.’
Viewers followed suit, falling in line with the presenter’s pleas to ‘be kind’ in light of Caroline’s death.

Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling (among so many others who work on #loveisland) have done themselves and Caroline proud this week. They have been so respectful, compassionate and brave at such a difficult time for every one of them.

As well as the commemoration to Caroline at the beginning of tonight’s episode, the show pulled all Just Eat sponsorship ads and in their place posted a simple card asking people to ‘Be Kind’ alongside the phone number to the Samaritans.
The current series of the Love Island is due to reach its finale on Sunday night, with the future of the series standing unconfirmed.
After the news of Caroline’s sudden passing broke, dozens of former Islanders have spoken out to remember their time with her as the leading lady of the series.
Molly-Mae Hague, who reached the finals of last year’s series, is donating all profits from her clothing collection to a mental health charity in her memory.
Love Island continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV2.
