We were warned right from the off that by the time the anniversary was over we would have lost three Neighbours favourites. The time has come to lick our wounds and count our losses, and they have been quite substantial.
But so far we’ve lost two. So who is next?
Bea (Bonnie Anderson), Toadie (Ryan Moloney), Elly (Jodi Anasta) and Harlow (Jemma Donovan) return to the street, but will each of them pull through their injuries and suffering from their respective ordeals? It’ll be touch and go for most of them.
Those around them will be coming to terms with the depth of the devastation they bring with them. One family is ripped apart by the murder of their patriarch, another floored by a senseless death of a loved one, and a final death will start off something that could leave lasting effects for a long time to come.
Who didn’t survive the big 35th anniversary?
Gary Canning
Oh dear, sweet, lovable Gary Canning (Damien Richardson), who was cruelly taken too soon in this tragic state of affairs. Gary had a heart of gold and died while trying to make things right with his son and while trying to protect the lives of Harlow (Jemma Donovan) and Bea (Bonnie Anderson). Fate can be cruel in soapland. He rushed to the island after Harlow text him the truth about Prue just before he was due to marry her.
He called off the wedding, realising what a terrible mistake he’d made, and hot-footed it to the island with the plan to make it up to Kyle after their almighty row. But when he arrived there he discovered Harlow was missing and, having flashes of his own daughter Xanthe, he jumped into action. He went on the hunt for her, heading out into the bush in the hopes of finding her. But when he discovered the mine where she was being held just in time to save Harlow from her snake bite, Finn found him, and there things ended for poor brave Gary as Finn swiftly sent an arrow into his back. Kyle takes his death particularly hard, and once the autopsy results are in, Kyle is left blaming himself. Will he ever be able to forgive himself for this?
Prue Wallace
Prue Wallace (Denise Van Outen) has been a tricky character from the start, but largely because she has been mixed up in something terrible, something so big it has consumed her – The Restoration Order. A cult that has brainwashed her and driven a wedge between her and her daughter, the Order has all but ruined their relationship as Prue has proven to be untrustworthy and a terrible mother. She has lied about having chosen to leave the Order in order to win back her family and forge a relationship with Gary, but when Harlow learned the truth she told Gary, who called off their wedding. He ran to the island to be with Kyle, and a heartbroken Prue followed closely behind, carrying with her their honeymoon box. Unbeknown to her the box was rigged. Before she could make things right , her life was cruelly cut short when she opened the box while leaving a voicemail for Harlow. It exploded and killed her. Before we knew it, Denise Van Outen’s time in Neighbours had come to an end. Rip Prue!
Who’s next?
Finn Kelly (Rob Mills) came back into our lives as Patrick, Bea Nilssen’s (Bonnie Anderson) wheelchair bound boyfriend when Finn was in his previous evil phase. After Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) pushed him off a cliff, he ended up in a coma only for him to awaken and have a personality transplant and become good again. But bad Finn was lurking underneath and it only took a bit of time and a bit of rekindling things with Elly for him to reappear. It led him down a dark path and turned into the horror that was the island trip where he tried to murder both Bea and Harlow, but poor Gary and Prue ended up dead instead.
Susan Kennedy
But Finn’s evil doesn’t stop there. He plans on killing Susan next in a plot that sees him take her hostage in a secluded cabin. He digs her a grave preparing to bury her body in a place no one will find it. Is Susan at risk from the madman?
Harlow Robinson
Harlow is left in a dire situation after the island and is placed in an induced coma in a bid to save her life. Paul Robinson is beside himself with worry and is so angry with Hendrix for putting Harlow in danger by taking her to the island that he won’t even let the teen see his girlfriend. Will Harlow pull through?
Toadie
Toadie is in a bad way when he’s found by Paul, mistaken for a dead body on the beach. Finn had been brutal when trying to get rid of him, bashing in his skull and sending him off in a sabotaged dingy in the hope he’d drown if he didn’t die from his head injury first. When Paul found him he did what he could to get him to safety, but then Harry Sinclair came across them and threatened both him and Paul with a gun. So if it’s not his head injury, dehydration or exposure that kills Toadie, could it be a bullet?
Elly
The last we saw of Elly, she’d discovered Gary’s dead body and realised the truth about Finn. She’d legged it off into the bush only for Finn to catch up with her and Aster, and for the scene to end with her letting out a blood curdling scream. With a flash forward, we then saw Finn setting fire to the island to cover up his terrible crimes. Will Elly perish on the island along with her sister and friends?
Finn Kelly
Will one of the Neighbours decide to get their revenge on Finn for the devastation he’s caused? Perhaps Paul Robinson could arrange a hit on the deranged man for what he’s done to his granddaughter. Or if she survives, maybe Elly will snap after what he’s done to her loved ones, especially with what he’s planning to do to Susan and for stealing her baby.
Who will body number three be?
