A woman who tweeted along with ITV’s Britain Get Talking campaign to announce the birth of her nephew has discovered a long-lost relative she did not know before.

The mental health campaign was started to encourage people from across the UK to stop whatever they are doing and to have a conversation with one another, with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly pausing the final of Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions back in October to introduce the initiative.

Ant and Dec later relaunched Britain Get Talking in last night’s episode of Saturday Night Takeaway, the first ever without an audience, and said we’ve ‘never needed each other more’, as they encouraged viewers at home to reach out to friends and get involved in the campaign by sharing videos and messages online, along with the hashtag #BritainGetTalking.

One particular Twitter user, Vicki Gauden, made the most of the campaign to share the news of the birth of her nephew, Cohan Dyal Gauden – and it was this that led to her discovering another member of her family.

Sharing a photo of a family member cradling the newborn in her arms, she tweeted: ‘Covid-19 didn’t stop me from meeting my new newphew, another “blue eyed boy” to steal his Auntie Toria’s heart.

‘Cohan Dy Gauden, born 16/03/2020, “Our Window Meet”. We will always find a way, Covid-19 won’t win!

She added: ‘This photo one day will tell an amazing story #BritainGetTalking @ITV.’

And it looks as if it just might well be.

Replying to the tweet, a woman called Carla Gauden said: ‘Congratulations from a fellow Gauden! Not a common surname/spelling.

‘Wonder if there is a distant connection here?’

And it looks as if there is – turns out, they are related and even from the same part of the UK.

Tweeting Carla a bit later on, Vikki wrote: ‘Are you from Kent? We have family in Kent.

‘My grandparents are Terry and Winnie Gauden from Bargoed.’

To which Carla then replied: ‘I am indeed from Kent and we are related on my dad’s side.

‘My parents were Joyce and Selwyn Gauden. Thought we had to be related with that surname!’

‘Wow – what a small world,’ Vikki then said. ‘I can’t wait to tell my grandmother later.’

With everything going on in the world right now, it is refreshing to hear a story as heartwarming as this, which proves that the Britain Get Talking campaign is really helping to make a difference.

Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway returns next Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
