Coronation Street cast are reportedly fearing for their jobs and future with the show as scheduled meetings about contracts have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Filming on the soap has been shut down and clear government lockdown guidelines have confirmed that talks to do with contracts would not be considered ‘essential’.
Therefore, it is not unexpected that cast talks have been postponed but after looking into the issue, Metro.co.uk understand that this is no reflection on the future of cast members and thatany fears for the future of jobs are unfounded.
In terms of writing and production planning, it’s business as normal at Corrie and the show has banked episodes until the summer.
There remains the possibility that lockdown will continue longer than we hope – meaning we could temporarily run out of episodes.
However, cast members and producers remain as dedicated to the show as ever and it is hoped that business will return to normal when self isolation eventually lifts.
A source told The Sun: ‘This is a very uncertain time — and that’s particularly true for those whose contracts are up for renewal.
“It was very unsettling for them to be sent home knowing the future isn’t decided.
‘The show’s bosses have done everything to reassure them, but until some sort of normality is resumed, negotiations won’t be completed.’
The scenario, much like all jobs, will be the same for all soaps so while anxiety among cast members is undoubtedly normal, there is no indication that anyone has anything to worry about long term.
As with the rest of the country, Corrie is on lockdown but will rise with the rest of us beyond this pandemic.
