Angel Gomes thanked Mason Greenwood after the Manchester United star dedicated his goal against Brighton to the midfielder ahead of his exit from Old Trafford.
Gomes, 19, is set to leave the Red Devils after failing to agree a new deal with the club despite United offering him £30,000-a-week.
Greenwood came through the ranks with Gomes at Old Trafford and his goal celebration against Brighton was dedicated to the midfielder ahead of his exit from the club.
Gomes is yet to officially confirm his exit but he hinted at his sadness in his response to Greenwood’s celebration.
‘No words!’ said Gomes, who followed it up with a crying emoji.
‘I love you bro special special player.
‘Thanks for the dedicated goal @masongreenwood’
United had been desperate to keep Gomes but the teenager decided against staying after making just six appearances this term.
Paul Pogba’s departure in 2012 left United reeling and they splashed out a world record £89m to re-sign him in 2016.
Gomes has received offers from across Europe and he’s expected to announce his next move in the coming days.
