Alex Brooker is being praised by fans for his new documentary Disability and Me, which they have called a ‘refreshing’ and necessary watch.
The Last Leg star undertook the journey tonight to explore the affect that his disability has had on his life, as well as a host of other areas in society, including support systems and family life.
Alex was born with deformities on his hands and right leg, which had to be amputated when he was a baby.
Watching along tonight, fans – many of whom revealed they were either disabled themselves or supporting disabled family members – thought the film was a must-watch.
‘Loving this programme,’ one viewer wrote. ‘What a brilliant show to discuss in schools.’
Another fan added: ‘Watching your documentary with my seven-year-old who has physical issues. Thank you so much for helping this all make sense to him, very real and touching.’
The documentary was also described as ‘eye-opening’ and ‘refreshing to see someone in the public eye speak so openly about their experience’.
Initially a sports journalist, Alex rose to fame after being chosen by Channel 4 to help present coverage of the 2012 Paralympics in London.
From there, he became part of the trio of Adam Hills, and Josh Widdicombe for chat show The Last Leg, which initially started a nightly alternative look at the Olympics, before spinning-off into its own chat show.
Last Leg is one of the few shows still on-air during the coronavirus pandemic, with all three hosts calling in to present from their homes.
Alex Brooker: Disability and Me is available to stream via BBC iPlayer.
