Borussia Dortmund are considering signing Memphis Depay this summer to replace Jadon Sancho, reports in Germany claim.
Sancho is widely expected to join Manchester United in the transfer window, although the two clubs are two clubs are some way apart on a fee as it stands.
However, Dortmund are preparing a contingency plan for his exit.
And they are eyeing a former Manchester United winger to replace him, according to Bild.
Depay failed to make the grade at Old Trafford but has impressed with Lyon.
However, he is thought to be keen on moving on this summer after they failed to qualify for Europe.
Depay would cost around £40million for the Bundesliga side to sign him and they may also face competition for his signature.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the Dutch winger and he is among a list of targets should the Gunners lose either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette.
While Dortmund are preparing for all possibilities, there is still hope among their executive team that they will keep hold of Sancho for another season.
‘Jadon [Sancho] is an outstanding footballer,’ said sporting director Michael Zorc. ‘With his age he has a quota of goal participations that I have never seen before.
‘I would be glad if he stayed with us this season. And he also has a contract!’
