Donald Trump has thrown his weight behind a doctor’s claim that there is a cure for coronavirus despite her insistence that some illnesses are caused by sex with demons.

Asked about his retweet of Doctor Stella Immanuel, which falsely claimed anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine is a cure for coronavirus, Trump said: ‘I’ve read a lot about hydroxy.

‘I happen to think it has an impact, especially at the early years. I think they were very respected doctors.

‘There was a woman (Immanuel) who was spectacular in her statements about it, that she’s had tremendous success with it, but they took her off (Twitter).

‘I don’t know why they took her off, maybe they had a good reason, maybe they didn’t. Based on a lot of reading and knowledge about it I think it could have a very positive impact on the early stages. Politically it doesn’t seem to be too popular because I recommended it.’

Trump’s retweet of Immanuel’s statement – which said ‘Covid has cure. America wake up,’ was removed by Twitter, with his son Donald Trump Jr blocked from posting on the site after sharing the same post.

Houston based Dr Immanuel, who works as a pediatrician and religious minister, has previously claimed alien DNA is secretly being used in medical treatments. She has also claimedthat scientists are devising a vaccine to turn people away from religion. She insists that masks don’t prevent the spread of Covid-19, despite Trump himself urging Americans to wear them.

Pressed about Immanuel’s bizarre claims, Trump added: ‘She was on air, along with many doctors. They were big fans of hydroxychloroquine.

‘I thought that she was very impressive in the sense that from where she came. I don’t know where she comes from, but she said that she’s had tremendous success with hundreds of different patients, but I thought her voice was an important voice. I don’t know much about her. ‘

In May, Trump took hydroxychloroquine for a fortnight as a preventative measure against Covid-19. Doctors have warned the drug’s effectiveness in treating coronavirus is unproven, and that it can actually seriously injure or kill patients battling coronavirus. It has not been approved as a coronavirus treatment by the US Food and Drug Administration, or by any other equivalent body round the world.

But Trump insisted the drug was still worth considering, saying: ‘Many doctors think its very successful…coupled with the zinc and perhaps the (antibiotic) azithromycin. Many doctors think it’s extremely good and some people don’t it’s become very political.

‘I happen to believe in it, I took it, as you know I took it for a 14 day period. I’m here. I happen to think it works in the early stages, frontline medical people believe that too. So we’ll take a lot at it. One thing we know, it’s been out for a long time that formula. It’s safe, it doesn’t cause problems, I had no problems, didn’t feel good, bad different. It didn’t get me and its hopefully not going to hurt anybody.’

Coronavirus has so far infected close to 4.4million Americans, and killed almost 150,000 people.
