Japanese horror series Ju-On: Origins has been freaking out Netflix viewers, but one episode in particular has fans horrified over its disturbing content.

It’s a spin-off from previous series Ju-On that had followed the story of Kayako and the Saeki family and their experience of a cursed house in Tokyo.

The new series now on Netflix, Ju-On: Origins, takes place decades before the family moved in and focuses on everyone who had contact with the house.

Each episode airs extremely unnerving scenes, with viewers no doubt even more unsettled by the trailer revealing: ‘Ju-On is based off of true events.’

In episode four, things take an even more disturbing turn when a man is seen murdering his pregnant wife, after she reveals the baby isn’t his, and then cutting into her womb to remove the baby.

Viewers warned others about the graphic and ‘triggering’ scenes via Twitter.

‘Ju-On is extremely confusing but worth a watch. MAJOR trigger warning for [spoilers] rape, child abuse, pregnancy/miscarriage/mutilation of pregnant women, murder, gore and pretty much anything else you can think of aha,’ wrote one viewer.

Another revealed that they were having a hard time getting over such scenes, tweeting: ‘Anyone who calls me today Ive been bringing up the scene from Ju-On Origins where dude disembowels a pregnant chick. Im not in the mood for phone calls and bringing that up drops whatever conversation REAL quick. #ThursdayThoughts.’

‘Anyone else watching the Ju-On origins series, it’s fecking nuts, especially the pregnancy in episode 4,’ said one viewer.

While one viewer was left unimpressed by the harrowing content, tweeting: ‘i wrote a thread on this and it got too long, but if you’re a victim of sexual assault or don’t like seeing pregnant women brutally murdered, please do not watch ju-on: origins. it is in no way connected to the films, and there are no warnings for the horrific triggering content.’

The Ju-On franchise was first created by Takashi Shimizu in 1998 and saw the release of short films Katasumi and 4444444444. It’s connected to The Grudge, an American version, that sees a similar curse take over.

Since then, more than 13 films have been released, as well as novels based on the story.

Ju-On: Origins is available to stream on Netflix.
