The Office US star Leslie David Baker is planning on bringing back Stanley Hudson for his own specially-created spin-off show.
The actor, whose character became known for his sharp tongue, couldn’t-care-less attitude and love of a good crossword, has launched a new mission to give Stanley a new life in California.
His new project, called The Uncle Stan Show, will see the character move to California after a relaxed retirement in Florida, after his nephew Lucky calls asking for help.
But his dire straights are definitely more complicated than Stan realises, and soon he’s dealing with Lucky’s motorcycle/flower shop, two kids, and trying to hide what it is he’s up to with his latest girlfriend/fiance/lady pal.
No pressure there, Stan.
However, after not getting any network backing, Leslie has recruited Office fans for help – and will be bringing the project to life via Kickstarter.
Hoping to raise $250,000 (£240,250), Leslie has one month to reach his target or the project will go unfunded.
His new plans come after the series creator Greg Daniels completely shut down any ideas of a revival any time soon, despite the series remaining a strong fanbase.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels said: ‘I love doing The Office more than anything and if we were going to revisit it, I would want to do it.
‘I think when all these [revival] rumours started to fly around, it was when they rebooted Will and Grace, and I think people were assuming that an Office reboot would be pretty much like that – it would be getting the entire cast back together and just continuing where we left off.’
He continued: ‘But you know, I went back to run the show in season 9 after discussing it with the main cast and part of our idea was we were gonna wrap it up, you know, we were gonna write towards the finale and have an ending, and so a lot of the characters left the office and we went forward by a year, we found out where everybody was.’
But at least fans got something during lockdown – with John Krasinski getting his entire gang together for a dance-along in honour of two superfans’ wedding.
