The One Show was forced to address social distancing complaints live on air, after viewers were seen questioning why guests were sat so close to one another.

During Wednesday night’s episode of the show, hosts Kym Marsh and Amol Rajan were seen interviewing Sally Phillips and Ronni Ancona via video link.

The stars appeared on the call together and were closely sat together as they leaned into the screen to discuss their latest projects during the broadcast.

Viewers at home were left a little confused, with many asking why the pair didn’t seem to be practicing social distancing rules.

Others asked if Sally and Ronni were living together during the pandemic, with Kym and Amol seeming to address the speculation as they repeatedly stated on air that the pair are now in a ‘bubble’ of their own.

Amol was seen setting the record straight as he said: ‘Just for those wondering, Sally and Ronni have formed a bubble while writing together.’

Under government advice during the coronavirus lockdown, single households are allowed to form support bubbles which sees them join with another household.

Said bubbles are exclusive and the people forming the bubble can stay in each other’s homes and do not have to socially distance.

New measures have been brought in to help support single households who have been unable to see friends or family for the last three months.

Lockdown restrictions have started easing too, with pubs, restaurants and hairdressers all being given the green light to reopen again from 4 July.

The One Show, meanwhile, has seen former Coronation Street star Kym take over as host during Alex Jones’ absence, while she takes a two-week break from the show so she can spend time with her mum.

The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm.
