Lucifer has been dethroned as the most popular show on Netflix, sorry.

The high-concept drama starring Tom Ellis recently dropped the first half of its fifth and penultimate season, and its proved to be a hit with Netflix viewers the world over.

But now the Prince of Darkness’ time at the top has appeared to come to an end, thanks to Netflix’s Cobra Kai.

Styled as a sequel to The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai stars the original series stars Ralph Maccio and William Zabka as childhood rivals Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, brought together 34 years after their first fight.

And it seems that nostalgia is still king for many fans, as the show as de-throned Lucifer in both the US and UK as the streaming platforms most popular current show.

We would say we felt sorry for the Father of Lies, but the devil always has a cunning plan up his sleeve…

Not that Lucifer has fallen from grace by any means – the debut of season 5A was named as the best debut ever for a TV show on Netflix since the introduction of its Top 10 ranking feature.

According to stats from FlixPatrol, Lucifer scored 670 points over its opening weekend.

The stats began at the end of February 2020 when the platform introduced the top 10 feature.

Lucifer will debut the second half of season five sometime next year, before leading into its sixth and final season.

The announcement of a sixth series came as a surprise to practically everyone since the fifth was due to form a finale to the show – and apparently the announcement meant some last-minute changes had to be made.

Lucifer season 5A and Cobra Kai seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now via Netflix.
