Viewers heaped praise on Channel 4’s The Talk as stars including Marvin and Rochelle Humes, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jordan and Ashley Banjo shared their experiences with racism

The show saw a host of celebrities reveal what life has been like growing up and living in the UK in 2020, and their experiences of being treated differently due to the colour of their skin.

Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne opened up about her first experience of racism at just nine years old, when a classmate said her nationality was ‘from the jungle’.

Ashley and Jordan Banjo also revealed that they get pulled over quite often by police while driving nice cars, with the officers asking them how they can afford to own it and saying they ‘match the description’ of car thieves in the local area.

Ade Adepitan also revealed an incident when he was a child, saying that on the way from taking his dog to the vet some kids called him the N-word on the way home.

Rochelle Humes also broke down in tears at the thought of her children going through the same experiences she had had as a child, when she once tried to scrub her skin off after a friend told her she wasn’t allowed to her birthday party because she was black.

Viewers took to Twitter to praise the show, writing: ‘Oh my word, watching, crying, so hard to imagine what some people go through. It is shocking, tbh. An eye opener for me. #TheTalk Racism is so ugly!!’

Others added: ‘This should be shown in every school and college. We need more documentaries like this that show everyone how privileged white people actually are. I’m so proud of everyone involved’ and ‘The talk is a difficult watch but so so necessary. Educate your children and yourselves!!!!’

Fans thanked the stars for opening up about their own experiences to keep the conversation going, writing: ‘@LittleMix@MarvinHumes @RochelleHumes @AshleyBanjo incredibly poignant discussions on #Thetalk tonight/Hearing their stories was inspirational and emotional/I hope the openness can help people understand how much change is still needed in the U.K+how far we still need to go ‘.
