Beyoncé has used her 39th birthday to announce she is to donate $1 million (£753,000) to Black-owned businesses.
The Black Is King star revealed her news on her official website today.
The note on behalf of the star’s BeyGOOD foundation reads: ‘proud to announce $1m in additional funds from Beyonce to help black-owned small businesses.
‘Round two of funding opens this month with out partner NAACP.’
The news coincides with the star’s birthday, with mother Tina Knowles sharing a fan-made video tribute on Instagram to mark the day.
The Formation singer previously gave £6 million to ‘communities of colour’ amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking in a statement in April, a rep for Bey’s foundation BeyGOOD said: ‘Communities of colour are suffering by epic proportions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘Many families live in underserved areas with homes that make it harder to practice social distancing.
‘Communities that were already lacking funds for education, health and housing are now faced with alarming infection rates and fatalities. And these communities lack access to testing and equitable health care.’
Speaking via video link at the Together At Home concert earlier this year, the icon said: ‘This virus is killing black people at an alarmingly high rate here in America.’
She added that Black Americans ‘disproportionately belong to essential parts of the workforce [and] do not have the luxury of working from home.’
The star, who is married to Jay-Z is known for hits like Irreplaceable, If I Were a Boy and Best Thing I Never Had.
She is mother to daughter Blue Ivy, eight, and three-year-old twins Carter and Rumi.
