The time that Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) have been dreading looks set to arrive in Coronation Street as Oliver’s time seems to be running out in a quickly cruel fashion.
Leanne and Oliver’s dad Steve (Simon Gregson) are still trying to get their heads around Oliver’s diagnosis with mitochondrial disease and the fact that there is no chance of a recovery but they are certainly not ready to say the painful goodbyes just yet.
As Nick, Leanne and Steve make preparations for their holiday in Cornwall, they’re interrupted by the sound of Oliver’s seizure alarm, meaning a trip to the hospital.
As Nick and Steve wait in the hospital corridor, they’re taken aback when Nick’s ex, Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) approaches. When Nick reveals that he’s waiting for news of his stepson, Natasha says she is there for a dermatology appointment.
The doctor breaks the news to Nick, and Steve that Oliver’s been moved to intensive care and put on life support.
Leanne remains adamant that he’ll pull through but Nick and Steve don’t share her optimism, bracing themselves to hear the worst.
As the trio face their most traumatic wait, is Leanne right to have hope or will Nick and Steve have to be strong as she could be hit with the most terrible news – that Oliver has gone?
With the plot destined to have a devastating ending, there are emotional scenes ahead and life will never be the same again for the family.
