EastEnders fans are definitely in for a treat when the show returns on Monday, as writer Daran Little has said he’s been ‘blown away’ by the upcoming episodes.
Monday, September 7 will see the long-awaited return of EastEnders to BBC One after having to go off-air due to filming being halted amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Daran shared his excitement at the new episodes, tweeting: ‘Had a sneak preview of my #EastEnders eps that go out next Thurs and Friday…
‘So blown away by the skill and craftsmanship of all the talented, dedicated people involved in masking all the current filming restrictions. What a team!!!!!!’
Fans have been counting down the days until we get to see what’s been happening on Albert Square in the past couple of months, and it’s sure to be dramatic based on the teasers we’ve seen so far.
As well as a brand new trailer arriving earlier in the week, Executive Producer Jon Sen also revealed what viewers have in store.
Explaining that the new episodes won’t show the lockdown itself, the events of the past few months will be the backdrop for where the characters are now.
He told BBC Breakfast: ‘As a soap, our job is to reflect the real world, and we’re doing that. Covid provided a context for the stories. We touch it, we can’t avoid it.
‘The characters reference lockdown, we’ve got some mask-wearing, of course. We are reflecting the world out there, but at the same time, we want to bring back compelling stories for our characters.
‘We want to give the audience a bit of escapism as well. It’s a drama and entertainment. We don’t want to major on just coronavirus.
‘We have some great stories for all the families, including the Trueman/Fox’s story —Denise’s great story coming back.
‘We’ve got the Carters — how are they going to survive outside the pub? We’ve got a brilliant culmination of a domestic violence storyline that we’ve been telling for 18 months.
‘All those stories and all that ambition is still there, it’s just in the context of Covid.’
EastEnders returns Monday, September 7 at 8.05pm on BBC One.
