Sinead O’Connor took to the streets of Peckham last week to film the music video for her new single which supports the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer headed to south east London in August to shoot the visuals for her upcoming song, which set for release on October 2.
It appears Sinead, 53, has taken inspiration from the recent and ongoing BLM protests against racism as she was seen carrying a placard through the streets of Peckham.
Making her stance perfectly clear, the Irish singer wore a t-shirt with ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the front.
The musician told her followers after the shoot: ‘Just back from London where Don Letts and crew and me filmed the video for my new single (out October 2). So am restricting movements for two weeks.’
She then quipped: ‘My house is going to be spotless and there will be lots of knitting. Because #KnittingCompares2U.’
The forthcoming track, which is yet to be named, was produced by Belfast producer David Holmes.
‘Very excited to be releasing a single in the next few weeks in aid of Black Lives Matter,’ Sinead announced to her Twitter followers.
It’s believed proceeds will go towards BLM.
In June, Sinead shared her heartbreak over the horrific death of George Floyd in the US, which sparked the Black Lives Matter protests.
‘Christ. Am in floods watching George Floyd’s funeral,’ she tweeted.
Sinead has been busy fighting other causes and found herself in the middle of a row between Jedward and Jim Corr after the twins criticised him for attending an anti-lockdown protest in Dublin.
In numerous videos of the protests, the crowd listened to Sinead version of The Foggy Dew.
However, the singer was not impressed that her music was being used, which was largely attended by people not wearing masks or socially distancing.
Sinead tweeted: ‘Can I please ask that selfishly unmasked crowds standing shoulder to shoulder protesting and ignoring Covid protective restrictions not use my music as if to suggest I support you in any way. I do not.’
