Tales Of The City star Marcus D’Amico has died aged 55, his sister has confirmed.
The actor, who is best known for originating the role Michael ‘Mouse’ Tolliver in the 1993 limited TV series, died of bronchial pneumonia at his home in Oxfordshire on December 16th.
‘Not only have I lost my beautiful brother but the world has lost an incredibly talented actor and director,’ Marcus’ sister Melissa D’Amico wrote on Twitter.
‘Words cannot express how much I miss him.’
Marcus starred alongside Olympia Dukakis and Laura Linney in the original Tales Of The City, before his role of Mouse was recast to Paul Hopkins.
In addition, Marcus also had a recurring role in Family Affairs, and made appearances in The Bill, Superman II and Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket.
He starred in a number of theatre productions too, including Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar at The Young Vic and The Boy’s Next Door.
In 1992, he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for best actor for his role as Louis in Angels In America.
Tributes have been pouring in for Marcus following the news of his death.
Journalist Patrick Strudwick wrote: ‘So sad to hear of the death of Marcus D’Amico at just 55. His tender, big-hearted performance of Mouse in the first series of Tales of the City is etched into my psyche forever.
‘To watch him searching for love in that role – a gay Everyman – gave me hope. Rest peacefully, Marcus.’
Echoing a similar sentiment, one fan wrote: ‘This is so very sad. The original Mouse in Tales of The City and the original Louis in Angels In America.
‘The two most formative and influential dramatic works in my life. Gods bless you, Marcus.’
