Warning: spoilers ahead for episode four of It’s A Sin.

It’s A Sin star Olly Alexander shared on Twitter that he was ‘crying’ watching the latest episode of the TV series, as viewers expressed their devastation over Ritchie’s news.

In episode four of Russell T Davies’ highly-acclaimed show, which follows a group of young gay friends in London at the time of the Aids crisis in the 1980s, lead character Ritchie Tozer (played by Olly) is informed by a doctor that he has Aids.

Ritchie feels compelled to travel to his family home in the Isle of Wight, where he bumps into an old school friend called Martin Pascoe (Jonny Green), who’s working at the local pub.

Having persuaded Martin to drive them both to the beach, Ritchie confesses to him that he used to have a big crush on him at school.

While watching the episode tonight on Channel 4, Years and Years singer Olly admitted that the scenes he shared with Jonny were some of his most treasured from the five-episode drama.

‘The scenes with Martin on the Isle Of White are some of my favorite from the show,’ he wrote, alongside a string of sobbing emojis. ‘I’m crying again.’

After Ritchie gets out of Martin’s car outside his family house, he performs a short ballet routine in front of the headlights, leaving Martin in awe as he moves his body with precision and grace.

Several It’s A Sin viewers commented on the ‘beauty’ of the moment, while also describing the interaction between them as ‘heartbreaking’.

‘Ritchie plieting with the music is cinematic gold and just breaks my heart,’ one person said.

‘The ballet I – This show really makes me feel so many emotions,’ another tweeted.

Someone else questioned whether Ritchie was ‘trying to tell him’ about his Aids diagnosis without words, adding: ‘The acting, the lighting and the writing is so powerful.’

At the end of the episode, Ritchie and a group of his friends including Jill (Lydia West), Roscoe (Omari Douglas) and Ash (Nathaniel Curtis) are loaded into a police van after taking part in an Aids protest, which leaves both Jill and Ritchie with bleeding wounds.

When Ash tries to see if Ritchie is alright, Ritchie reveals that he has Aids, telling everyone in the vehicle: ‘I’m gonna live.’

This moment struck a chord with many viewers, with one person saying that they ‘may need some time to process’ after finishing the latest episode.

‘When they’re all in the back of the police van… I cannot stop crying,’ one viewer wrote.

‘Another FANTASTIC #ItsASin episode. Gosh what a final few moments. Very emosh rn pls respect this precious time I need,’ another said.

It’s A Sin returns next Friday at 9pm on Channel 4 and is available to watch on All 4.
