Leicester City’s James Maddison has backed Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker to bounce back from his poor run of form, including a comical error as the Foxes beat the Reds 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

With the score at 1-1, Alisson came charging out of his penalty area to clear a long ball over the top of the defence.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, new signing Ozan Kabak was retreating towards his own goal and also went for the ball, causing the two Liverpool players to collide and allow Jamie Vardy to steam through and tap the ball into an open net.

The usually reliable ‘keeper also had a very poor game in the 4-1 defeat by Manchester City in their last outing, with the Reds now extending their losing run to three Premier League matches.

Maddison, who scored Leicester’s first goal of the game as he cancelled out a Mo Salah opener, says Alisson is clearly struggling at the moment, but has backed the 28-year-old to come good.

‘Yeah that’s what Jamie Vardy does, he picks up and sniffs out them little opportunities,’ Maddison told BT Sport.

‘Mix-up between the centre-half and the goalkeeper, that’s just one of them things.

‘I don’t think you can look too much into it, Alisson’s obviously having a bit of a tough time at the minute, the last game and that today.

‘He’s a top goalkeeper, I’m sure he’ll be back and I’m just glad that we could pounce on that mistake.’

Leicester went second with the victory and crucially seven points clear of Chelsea in fifth place as they look to cement a Champions League place.

Maddison feels his side are showing the immense quality they have in their side and are proving that they deserve to be challenging at the top of the table.

‘It’s brilliant, it’s another three points and another three points away from Liverpool,’ said the England international.

‘We know we’ve got the quality, I always say we’ve got so much quality especially in front areas and in midfield and we’re solid at the back.

‘We’ve got a lot of injuries, by the way, it doesn’t really get talked about because we’re not “the big six” but we’re utilising the squad brilliantly at the minute.

‘We’re right up there, that’s where we want to be and we’re not up there by fluke. We’ll keep working, grinding out results against big teams.’
