Jose Mourinho reveals Heung-Min Son was left with a wound on his ankle after Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, although he does not see it is a serious injury to the South Korean star.

Spurs were comfortably beaten 3-0 by the Premier League leaders at the Etihad, thanks to a penalty from Rodri followed by a brace from Ilkay Gundogan.

Harry Kane hit the post from a free-kick in the first-half but Tottenham didn’t provide much threat after that as City extended their superb winning run to 16 matches, in all competitions.

Tottenham will be licking their metaphorical and their actual wounds after the match, as Mourinho revealed his South Korean superstar was left with a nasty cut from the game.

‘He has a wound on his ankle,’ Mourinho said of the South Korean. ‘A wound means a stud. A stud in the ankle means a card. I don’t think a red.

‘Hopefully nothing big and that’s it.’

Both teams played on Wednesday in the FA Cup, although City comfortably beat Swansea City in the FA Cup, while a strong Spurs side were defeated after extra-time by Everton.

Mourinho felt that the levels of fatigue were the difference on Saturday and praised his players for battling through tiredness.

‘A fresh team against a very tired team,’ he said of the match in Manchester. ‘They started very well and controlled. Hit the post, 1-0, could give us that fuel when you are tired.

‘Then one more of these modern penalties to put us in a difficult situation. Very happy with the players attitude. I had guys on the pitch that played two hours a couple of days ago, they gave everything. We had guys in difficulty, great attitude, dignity.

‘Losing 3-0 a team that isn’t united or together would give up but the team didn’t deserve at all. Harry, Pierre [Hojberg], they all give everything I have nothing to say against my players, not even a couple of defensive mistakes.’
