A man was reduced to tears on tonight’s episode of Antiques Roadshow after being told that the Rolex watch he was given from his late father is worth £20,000.
The experts had headed to Stonor Park in Oxfordshire for the latest chapter of the BBC One programme and one visitor brought his treasured time piece for a valuation from Richard Price.
The owner revealed his dad bought the watch for £132 in 1972 for himself in Birmingham and he later gifted it to his son a couple of months before he died last October.
‘It means absolutely everything to me,’ he said. ‘It’s part of my dad. It’s a very, very special watch, that is and will be forever.’
The owner had kept the accessory alongside its original invoice and additional straps.
After inspecting the watch, Richard declared that it could take home £20,000 if sold at auction, meaning a profit of around £18,000, considering the rate of inflation from when it was first purchased.
Overcome with emotion at hearing the figure, the owner grew visibly upset.
‘My dad loved this programme and he would have been very proud to see it on here, but he wouldn’t have cared what it’s worth,’ he later added to the camera.
‘It was his watch. He would have liked the idea it was worth some money, but it would have meant nothing.’
This week’s astonishing discovery comes after an Antiques Roadshow guest was left speechless after finding out that two old library books from the school where he works were worth up to £30,000.
Antiques Roadshow airs Sundays at 7pm on BBC One.
