Marriage proposals rarely go to plan on our soaps, as Emmerdale’s Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) will discover for himself when his plan for a romantic gesture ends up backfiring.
Liam’s intention is to propose to girlfriend Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) and, in order to keep his scheme hush-hush, the village GP ropes in the help of David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden).
David’s task is to keep Leyla distracted until such time as Leanna (Mimi Slinger) gives him the signal that Liam is ready to propose.
But what no one has factored in is an appearance by Meena (Paige Sandhu), who’s unaware of the marriage plan and has got it into her head that there’s a spark between David and Leyla.
So just as Liam is about to pop the question, in storms Meena with a rude interruption. An embarrassed David tries to explain the reason why he’s been in Leyla’s company, but in doing so he blows the big surprise.
Liam is understandably upset that his proposal has been ruined, but realising the lengths to which he’s gone, Leyla suggests he try again.
And after delivering a speech that comes straight from the heart, the doc gets the answer he’d been hoping for: it’s a big “yes!” from the bride to be.
So despite the best efforts of a jealous Meena, it seems that Liam and Leyla have good reason to celebrate. Here’s to the happy couple!
