Bruno Fernandes says he didn’t feel a touch on the ball before Edinson Cavani’s wonder goal for Manchester United in their 1-1 draw with Fulham.

10,000 spectators witnessed Cavani audaciously chip Alphonse Areola from 40 yards out following a long ball from goalkeeper David de Gea, which VAR adjudged that Fernandes touched on the way through.

Joe Bryan’s equaliser after 76 minutes meant United fans, who were back at Old Trafford for the first time in 14 months, were denied the opportunity to see their team win.

Although Fernandes was credited with the assist for Cavani’s goal, he doesn’t think he got the flick-on.

‘Honestly, I didn’t feel the touch,’ Fernandes told BBC Match of the Day.

‘The referee said I touched the ball. How it is, I don’t care honestly.

‘I always say the most important goal is the one that hits the net, it doesn’t matter who gets the goal or the assist.’

On fans returning, Fernandes added: ‘It was really good [to have fans back]. It’s such a good feeling you know.

‘We know how important fans are to football so it was really nice to have them back.

‘We didn’t give them what we wanted with the victory.’
