Bukayo Saka has been thoroughly enjoying the performances of Ben White in England training this summer, picking out the Arsenal target as the teammate who has impressed him most with the Three Lions.

White was something of a surprise inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020 and made the final cut after Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered an injury in a pre-tournament friendly.

The Brighton defender is yet to take to the field at the Euros, but he has clearly caught the eye in training, especially as his teammates did not know a great deal about him just a few weeks ago.

Asked by ITV who has impressed him most with England, Saka said: ‘I was impressed the most by Ben White because obviously I haven’t seen him a lot this season.

‘Coming here and playing with him I’ve been impressed with him.’

Manchester City’s Phil Foden was asked the same question and gave the same answer, adding: ‘I haven’t really seen a lot of Ben and he’s came in and I thought he’s been brilliant in training so I’d probably say Ben White.’

Saka’s review of White will be good news for the Arsenal hierarchy as they continue their pursuit of the Seagulls defender this summer.

The Gunners have made two bids for White already, which have both been rejected, but they are expected to return with another which will be closer to Brighton’s £50m valuation of the 23-year-old.

Asked about the ongoing speculation, White told talkSPORT: ‘It’s nice, it’s happened quite a lot over the last two years, there’s been a lot of noise.

On whether he talks to teammates about it, he added: ‘Not really. You don’t know what’s true and what’s not. So there’s no real point talking about it.’

The only Brighton player in the England squad, it may be that White and Saka become teammates for both club and country in the coming weeks.

White will remain on the bench on Tuesday when England take on Germany, while Saka is hoping to retain his place in the starting XI after playing so impressively in the 1-0 win over Czech Republic in the final group stage game.
