Call Of Duty Warzone receives new texture pack for PS5 and Xbox Series X

Activision’s latest texture pack for Call Of Duty Warzone improves visual details but isn’t available on the base PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

While it is playable on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 thanks to backwards compatibility, Call Of Duty: Warzone doesn’t take full advantage of the two consoles’ new and improved hardware.

Activision is supposed to be working on a dedicated current gen upgrade for it, but there has been no indication of when that will actually happen. In the meantime, the publisher has been releasing texture packs which make some visual improvements to the game when downloaded.

Four of them have been released so far and a fifth is available to download new this week. However, it’s not available on the base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

The latest texture pack prioritises improving visual quality at a 1440p resolution, which isn’t possible on those two consoles. So, this only really applies to anyone who plays Warzone on an Xbox One X, a PS4 Pro, an Xbox Series X/S, or a PlayStation 5, and has access to a monitor or TV that allows for a 1440p resolution.

It also requires 7GB of hard drive space. It’s important to note that it is entirely optional and isn’t required to run the game. Anyone who isn’t particularly bothered with Warzone’s visuals can happily ignore it.

But if you ever change your mind, or if you don’t have enough room and need to make some extra space first, you can download it later from the Game Installs menu.

The new download comes shortly after the release of Season 4, which has added another swathe of new content to both Warzone and Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Warzone’s big next gen upgrade may not arrive until after the release of the 2021 Call Of Duty game. Although Activision has yet to formally reveal it, frequent rumours point to it being another Second World War era game.

At the very least, it will be integrated into Warzone as well, as Activision intends to support the battle royale game for at least another year.

Call Of Duty: Warzone is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
