Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones and Andrew Garfield are set to star in a new series about the Latter Day Saint (LDS) movement.

The drama, titled Under the Banner of Heaven, is in production at FX and Hulu and based on Jon Krakauer’s non-fiction bestseller of the same name.

It tells the story of a detective who finds his faith tested while investigating a murder that has deep ties to LDS fundamentalism.

Actor Andrew stars as Mormon Pyre, who struggles with his faith after growing close to the investigation, while Daisy will play a Mormon member of a Utah family who was murdered.

Dustin Lance Black has created the series, after originally attempting to turn the novel into a film with Warner Bros a decade ago. It will be directed by Hell or High Water’s David Mackenzie.

Gina Balian of FX said in a statement: ‘Dustin Lance Black is a gifted storyteller and the perfect artist to adapt Jon Krakauer’s gripping novel for FX.’

‘We are thrilled that David Mackenzie has come aboard as a director and to have Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones star in Under the Banner of Heaven.’

Show creator Dustin said: ‘After so many years of work, I’m incredibly grateful to Imagine and FX for their patience with and commitment to bringing this story to screen.’

A release date for Under the Banner of Heaven has yet to be announced.
It’s been a big year for Daisy, after she earned her first very well-deserved Golden Globes nomination for Normal People – while her co-star Paul Mescal was snubbed.
