Former Arsenal and Bayern Munich star Lukas Podolski has made the final move of his epic playing career, describing his switch to Polish side Gornik Zabrze as a ‘dream’ transfer.

Podolski would go on to become a Germany legend, winning 130 caps and the 2014 World Cup, but he was born in Gilwice, Poland and grew up as a fan of Gornik Zabrze.

Since leaving Arsenal in 2015 he has spent time with Inter Milan, Galatasaray, Vissel Kobe and Antalyaspor, but says this will be the last stop of his storied career, signing a contract until 2022.

This has long been his plan as Podolski bought shares in the Polish club back in 2014 and declared it his dream to move there before retirement.

‘It’s my dream to finish my footballing career playing for Gornik,’ the 36-year-old told the club’s official website at the time.

‘Gornik Zabrze is the team I support in my Polish homeland.

‘Every year when I visit my family in Upper Silesia, I love to meet up with my friends and acquaintances there for a good chat.’

The club posted a video announcing his arrival, which was tagged: ‘The time has come. Welcome home.’

This move will be combined with his arrival on the reality TV scene as he has signed up to be a judge on Germany’s version of Britain’s Got Talent, ‘Das Supertalent’.

He has become the first footballer to be a judge on any nation’s version of the show and said of the new gig: ‘I’ve always enjoyed watching Das Supertalent with my family, now I’ll be sitting on the panel myself.

‘I’m excited about these and other new challenges at my new club.

‘I always wonder how much talent can people have? But there are always new surprises.’
