As photos of glam celebrities filter through from Cannes Film Festival, we’ve had to do a double-take as The Big Bang Theory’s Simon Helberg makes an appearance that’s a far cry from Howard Wolowitz.
While it’s been two years since we last saw Simon take on the engineer in the long-running sitcom, which came to an end in 2019, we’d be forgiven for forgetting the man doesn’t get around in kitschy turtlenecks on the reg.
With longer hair slicked back behind his ears (no bowl cut in sight) and a suave suit, Simon cut a chic figure as he joined his co-stars Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver for the premiere of their flick Annette on Tuesday.
Attending the day’s photocall, Simon was seen wearing a brown blazer with a white, stripy T-shirt underneath, and white trousers which is just so Frenchy so chic in our eyes.
However, as he walked the red carpet ahead of the premiere aftward he was suited and boosted, in a sharp blue number with black bow-tie, as he added a pair of shades to really show us he’s no Howard when it comes to showstopping outfits.
Their film opened the 74th annual film event and didn’t waste time in garnering that wanted round of applause, with a standing ovation from the audience which reportedly lasted five minutes.
It’s been touted as a surreal rock opera with Marion starring as singer Anne and Adam playing her husband, stand-up comedian Henry. Simon stars as The Conductor in the film directed by Leos Carax.
While it’s hard for fans of The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007, not to picture Simon as lovable Howard, the star has also been cast in As Sick As They Made Us, which is currently in production.
Simon’s Big Bang co-stars have all gone on to great things following the end of the show, with Kunal Nayyar (Raj Koothrappali) filming a chilling appearance in Netflix’s Criminal, while Kaley Cuoco (Penny) starred in and produced series The Flight Attendant.
While the show ended after 12 seasons, leaving fans heartbroken to say goodbye to the beloved sitcom, Kaley recently gave us all a spark of hope, as she revealed that she’d be up for a reunion episode.
‘I would definitely be open to some sort of reunion show. I can’t wait for the Friends one, and so I’m definitely open to doing one ourselves as well,’ she said.
But Kaley isn’t in any rush to step into her character’s shoes again, as she thinks it’s too soon after the show ended.
‘It does still feel like yesterday that we wrapped. I think everyone is kind of trying out their new paths and seeing what their next project is, and I’m excited to see how everyone flourishes,’ she explained to E! News.
‘I think in a few years or whenever anyone’s open to it, I definitely will be down for that. It was a life-changing experience for all of us, and it’d be great to do that for the fans, too, because we had such an amazing fan base that stuck with us for so long.’
