The UK is set to be battered with rain and thunder today, stripping any hopes of a sunny Euros game in a beer garden.
The Met Office has put yellow weather warnings in place for most of the country until midnight tonight. Thunderstorms could cause flooding and damage to buildings from Middlesbrough up north to Portsmouth down south.
Some parts of the UK can expect to see up to 40mm of rain falling in just one hour.
This is not good news for football fans who will be packing into pubs and other venues to watch England’s quarter-final game against Ukraine in Rome tonight.
Although tomorrow morning will be slightly calmer, the same weather warning has been issued from 10am to midnight tomorrow.
Scotland and Northern Ireland will not be quite as unlucky as England with its very non-sunny start to the summer but these nations will have to wait out the rest of the weekend.
Edinburgh and Glasgow are also under yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms today and tomorrow but the sun starts to come out on Tuesday for Edinburgh.
Belfast is not under any weather warnings and can expect some sunshine on Wednesday but other parts of Northern Ireland are.
Some parts of Wales, including Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham have also been warned about thunderstorms.
Despite all these thunderstorm alerts, some areas of the country will get through the weekend completely dry.
But ‘where they do hit, they are likely to be torrential’, the Met Office said.
However, not even the wet areas are going to be very cold, with temperatures hitting 22°C in London and other southern parts of the country.
Up north is not far behind today, with Newcastle reaching a high of 18°C.
Although the air will be cooler along the coast, most of the country will feel humid and stuffy.
There are no thunderstorm warnings in place for the rest of the week but it is still looking grey and wet, albeit with some sunny interruptions.
The Met Office predicts this ‘unsettled’ weather until July 14 but says it should be ‘fine and dry’ for the rest of the month.
