Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) speaks out about the horrific abuse he suffered at the hands of Katy Lewis (Simone Lahbib) on EastEnders, finally confronting her about what she did to him all those years ago.

In the lead up to New Year’s Eve Mick is at his lowest point. He has been manipulated by his abuser and having pushed everyone close to him away he feels totally alone, to the point that he considers taking his own life.

However the former landlord is set to stand up to Katy and make her face what she did to him.

Actor Danny says it is a ‘turning point’ for Mick but the troubled man still has a long way to go until he can begin his healing process.

Speaking about the moment Mick deals with Katy head on, he said: ‘It’s the turning point in that he finally understands what’s going on and what happened to him when he was a child but he’s still got a very, very long journey to go.

‘It’s certainly the beginning of the end, in terms of him accepting that he was abused and realising why he’s been struggling for so long.

‘Mick opening up to other people about it is really an important part of his journey too.’

Danny said he was ‘honoured’ to be given the storyline, which EastEnders has created in partnership with Samaritans, as he hopes it will help challene the stigma of male victims of sexual abuse.

‘We’re filming it at a time with social distancing and it has been difficult but I’m so grateful. I really hope I’ve done it justice and that someone somewhere can take something from it and maybe speak out about what they’re going through’, he said.

‘A storyline like this is so important – especially for men and the great thing about highlighting Mick’s story is the impact that it could have on people watching.

‘I hope it shows the importance of talking and reaching out when in need.’

In a new trailer for the emotional New Year’s episode sees Mick desperate to turn to wife Linda (Kellie Bright), however she is contemplating whether to run away with Max Branning (Jake Wood).
