Tammy Abraham says Chelsea’s FA Cup final defeat ‘hurts’ but insists the club still have ‘unfinished business’ this season.
Abraham was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 18-man squad for Saturday’s showpiece at Wembley, despite being the club’s joint-top scorer this season on 12 goals across all competitions.
The 23-year-old has struggled for game time since Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in January, and the striker’s partner, Leah Monroe, slammed the German boss’ decision prior to kick-off at Wembley.
‘How on earth do you make the decision to leave your top goalscorer out of the squad for a final?’ Monroe posted on her Instagram stories before deleting the message.
‘The same person who even scored the goals to actually qualify for this competition?
‘It’s not making any sense whatsoever.’
Leicester went on to win the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history courtesy of Youri Tielemans’ stunning second-half strike.
Addressing the defeat on social media, Abraham admitted the result ‘hurts’ as he thanked fans for their support.
‘It hurts but we still have unfinished business,’ Abraham said.
‘Thank you for your support, good to have you back 💙.’
When asked if Abraham wasn’t a player for him, Tuchel told Stadium Astro after the FA Cup final defeat: ‘No, it’s just hard decisions on a matchday when you can only nominate 18 players.’
Looking ahead, the Blues, who are currently in fourth place in the table, still have crunch clashes against Leicester and Aston Villa to secure their place in the top-four.
They also have a Champions League final against Manchester City to look forward to in Portugal on May 29.
