As Love Island 2021 prepares to launch, with newcomers including Hugo Hammond and Shannon Singh already suspected to stir the pot, viewers can’t help but take a fond look back at previous stars from the show.

Series 2 winners Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey were seemingly destined to be with each other from the start, overcoming obstacles in their relationship to reach where they are today.

It’s been five years since Cara, then 26, and Nathan, then 25, took part in Love Island, laying eyes on each other on the very first day.

Now 30 and 28 respectively (with Nathan turning 29 on Sunday June 27), the couple have come a long way – falling in love, breaking up, getting back together and sharing a family together.

So what happened to Cara and Nathan on Love Island and where are they now?

What happened to Cara and Nathan on Love Island?

Cara and Nathan were both part of Love Island series two from day one, pairing up on the first day and remaining a couple throughout, all the way through to the final.

They ended up winning the competition with 54% of the vote, beating runners-up Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland at the final hurdle.

After discovering they were the winners of Love Island, Cara and Nathan were both given gold envelopes, with Cara’s containing £50,000 and Nathan’s containing nothing.

Unsurprisingly, Cara decided to split the money with Nathan, as has every other winning couple on the show… so far.

In April 2017, it was announced that Cara and Nathan had broken up, just nine months after first meeting.

However, seven months later, it was revealed that they were back together, ahead of the birth of their first baby, a son called Freddie who was born in December.

Where are the series 2 winners now?

In July 2018, Cara and Nathan announced that they had become engaged, with Nathan popping the question in the villa where they first met.

‘I brought her back to where we met and took her on a little treasure hunt around the villa to different places which meant something to us,’ he told OK! magazine at the time.

‘Finally, I blindfolded her, led her to the pool and got down on one knee.’

‘It was so romantic that he proposed in the Love Island villa. This is where we met – we’ve come full circle,’ Cara added.

A year later, the loved-up couple were married in a secret ceremony, before welcoming their second child, a baby girl named Delilah, in July 2020.

Cara is the co-owner of clothing company Embroidery By FJ, while Nathan frequently blogs about being a dad and shares a YouTube channel with Cara called Dela-Mass Family.

Love Island 2021 launches on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.
