Nadia Sawalha has shared her thoughts on Boris Johnson saying the ‘matter is closed’ after Matt Hancock was caught breaking lockdown rules by kissing his aide.
The Loose Women star, 56, took to Instagram after photos and videos emerged of Mr Hancock, 42, kissing Gina Coladangelo, 43, in his office in Whitehall on May 6, when lockdown rules said people could not hug others from different households.
After Mr Hancock apologised, the Prime Minister considered the matter ‘closed’, which left Nadia apoplectic with rage that the matter was being swept under the carpet.
Nadia took to Instagram to share a five-minute-long rant about the matter, telling her followers: ‘I am so angry, because I’m sure we will still be expected to stick to all the rules and make our teenagers stick to all the rules, while these f**kers continually break them.
‘Now I don’t give a damn if anyone out of government breaks the rules, it’s none of my business, I don’t care.
‘But when the guy who stood on that podium week after week, with his family values face, and with his “doing the right thing”, and with his pull together message is groping someone that he’s given a contract to in his ministerial office, and the Prime Minister, yet again, comes out and says, “I accept his apology and the case is now closed”.
‘Who the hell does Boris Johnson think he is to think that we are going to accept that the case is closed? We had it with Dominic Cummings, and it was too much. It was way too much, but to do it again?’
She added that it enraged her as she had been listening to people on the radio saying that they had lost loved ones to coronavirus or had been separated from their families to stop the spread, while members of government were breaking the rules.
Nadia continued: ‘Come on guys, are we going to let the matter now be closed, like we live in North Korea, or Russia or China, where everybody is told how to behave, how to think and somebody else – the big guy at the top – decides when the matter is closed?’
She added: ’When are we going to say enough is enough?’
Mr Hancock had apologised after the footage emerged, saying in a statement: ‘I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances.
‘I have let people down and am very sorry. I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter.’
